Kids, put down the iPad, summer is just around the corner, and with it comes Nippers season.

Nippers is an Australian institution. A great way for kids to learn water safety, keep fit, get outside, compete and enjoy the glorious Sunshine Coast beaches.

The Mooloolaba Surf Club Nippers sign-on is Sunday 25th August 2019 9am-noon at Mooloolaba Surf Club function room. MSLSC is excited to welcome families, old and new to come and join up for an action-packed, fun-filled summer at the beach.

Nippers caters for kids aged 5 to 13 years old, and Mooloolaba has a cadet’s program for 14 to 17 years old. Nippers and Junior Lifesavers are the breeding ground for the lifesavers of the future and the army of volunteers at Mooloolaba Surf Lifesaving Club are pitching in to make it the best season yet. The focus for Nippers is fun, and surf awareness and it’s a great way for the whole family to enjoy the world-famous Mooloolaba beach. Parents can get involved too, with everything from beach bar b ques to water safety (after an SRC or Bronze Course) or relax on the beach watching the kids have all the fun.

“Nippers is more than a sport. It teaches children valuable life skills such as surf awareness and how to save a life. A great personal development tool, nippers improves your confidence, fitness, beach, swimming and board paddling skills. Most of all, nippers is fun, if you love being outdoors, then you are going to love nippers,” said Nippers Chairman Matthew Horder.

Nippers runs, Sunday mornings, from September until March (with a short break over Christmas and New Year). Also included in the membership, are a host of additional optional activities, that run during the week, including training sessions in sprint coaching, board riding, swim training, and beach awareness. Not forgetting the socials, including Award Nights and Mooloolaba Nippers famous weekly Wednesday night barbeque.

Our fully trained water safety teams, provide gentle guidance for the children that find the sea daunting and safety for the ones with no fear. Children develop confidence in the water and strong social and community awareness ethics. There is also the chance for Nippers to compete in a wide range of Surf Carnivals for any budding Iron Men and Women. As Nipper's progress to cadets, they learn valuable lifesaving skills and progress to SRC and can become volunteer Lifesavers.

“As the patrolling season gets closer so does the beginning of a new Nipper season. The significance of this is to ensure that we continue the ongoing development of our future Lifesavers and to reinforce our commitment to community and beach safety. It is fantastic to be able maintain this iconic legacy that is Surf Lifesaving and we as a club are always excited and humbled to raise the red and yellow flags and to welcome new and existing families to the club,” said Andrew Cairns Mooloolaba Club President.

To join Mooloolaba SLSC Nippers 2019 / 2020 season, children must be aged five as of 30th September 2019. The little green caps program is for 5-7 year old’s and introduces them to the beach and the basics of water safety. Then the 8-13s gain a variety of water skills with a host of specialised, volunteer coaches. So, come and give Nippers a try at Mooloolaba Beach. Where else would you rather be!
