Sunny Coast Industrial Park Leading The Way

When it came to industrial land sales in Queensland last year, Sunshine Coast Industrial Park (SCIP) was the shining star, accounting for nearly one third of the $31.3 million in sales seen in Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) estates.

Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Planning and Infrastructure Cameron Dick said this upward trend has continued for the park in 2019, with more businesses showing strong interest in moving to SCIP.

“Seven lots totalling 6.5 hectares have changed hands, enabling current businesses to expand and new businesses to begin,” Mr Dick said.

“In addition, ten lots in the SCIP are under contract at a value of $14 million, and EDQ continues to receive enquiries on other available lots in the estate.

“Part of EDQ’s role is to ensure there is an adequate supply of industrial land in Queensland, where it is needed, to create jobs for local communities.

“The Sunshine Coast business growth in this industrial estate tells us the supply is in the right location and is very much in demand.”

A 2016 Economic Associates report projected SCIP will support 2700 full-time equivalent jobs and add $544 million per year to the regional economy once all lots have been developed.

“The SCIP is a hive of construction activity at the moment, with a number of businesses finalising their premises,” Mr Dick said.

“We’re eager to see SCIP filled up, fitted out and thriving as a centrepiece industrial hub for the Sunshine Coast region.”

Luke Geelan, managing director from Shore Hire, a leading supplier of high-quality shoring, propping and traffic equipment to the construction sector, said he sees a significant growth opportunity for Shore Hire in deciding to establish their business within the SCIP.

“Shore Hire is very much committed to creating local jobs within the community,” Mr Geelan said.

“We’re looking to employ three local staff initially, with a view to expanding to 10-15 staff in the coming years.”

Shore Hire is expecting their new facility in the park to be completed soon, while the Department of Transport and Main Roads have commenced site earthworks for their new 2.4-hectare depot.

Other businesses featuring in the SCIP include The Jetty Specialist, a Caloundra-based, family-owned company that have expanded into a 5000sqm facility, which will lead to the creation of 10 new full-time positions, and Octeros Cabinets, which are now operational in a 7000sqm factory.
