Local Surf Livesavers are pleading with the public to take care after a near drowning at Kings Beach over the weekend.
An elderly man was pulled unconscious from the water on Saturday afternoon.
He was then taken to the Sunshine Coast University hospital where he remains in a critical condition
Sunshine Coast Lifesaving Services Coordinator Jacob Thomson said it's still not known what caused the man to get into trouble, but they're just glad that he was between the red and yellow flags so he could be seen.
"The circumstances surrounding the man getting into difficulty aren't clear as of yet, and that will obviously be looked at into the future but obviously Lifesavers were on scene quickly and brought the gentleman to shore" Mr Thomson said.
He also said that the man was suffering from a head injury, leading Lifesavers to believe that he may have hit his head on a sandbank while he was in the water.
"They acted quite promptly and started CPR, the defib was used and the gentleman regained some stability before he was handed over the QAS for transport" Mr Thomson said.
There were eight rescues across Sunshine Coast beaches and many more preventative actions had to be taken.
