Second Sunshine Coast resident dies from COVID
One of the six people who died from COVID-19 in a single day in Queensland, is from the Sunshine Coast.
The state yesterday recorded its deadliest day since the pandemic began, with the illness claiming six lives in the previous 24 hours.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says they were all aged in their 70s, 80s and 90s.
"That is the largest number of people that Queenslanders have lost during the pandemic," she says.
"Can I please express my deepest sympathies to the families of the loved ones that have passed away.
"These are people's grandparents, brothers, sisters, uncles."
It's the second COVID-related death recorded on the Sunshine Coast since the start of the pandemic.
It comes as more than 900 news cases have been recorded across the health district, bringing the total number of cases in the region to 9,647.
