Local pharmacy offers free flu jabs to homeless
A Caloundra pharmacy is handing out free flu shots, locals who are sleeping rough.
Priceline Pharmacy Caloundra is offering 100 free jabs to people in the community who are experiencing homelessness.
Vouchers are being handed out through services like Gateway Care Food Centre and Cafe, and Rosies, to help ensure vulnerable members of the community stay healthy this winter.
"We believe medication and access to healthcare is really important but some of us out there just don't have that opportunity, so we're trying to encourage all our local people in need to come in store and get their flu jab," says pharmacist manager Eddie.
"There are people that are getting ill and even dying on the street, that can easily be prevented with such a simple things as a flu vaccination
"So this year we thought, 'why not go out there and approach them and offer them that access.'"
Eddie's calling on Caloundra businesses to get onboard with the campaign, so they can give out even more jabs for free.
"Our pharmacy's going to donate 100 flu vaccinations but we want more, so obviously we need help from others and other businesses," Eddie says.
"If they're happy to do that, we're more than happy to vaccinate all their staff for free, just to show our token of appreciation as well."
