More flight options between Sunny Coast and Emerald

The trip between the Sunshine Coast and Central Queensland just got easier with Alliance Airlines now offering seats to the public on its charter flights.

The airline runs two charter services between Marcoola and Emerald, per week.

These flights had previously been closed charter services, but will be open to the public from Monday.

Sunshine Coast Airport CEO Andrew Brodie says the flights will boost tourism for both regions.

“The flights will also drive tourism in both directions, offering Sunshine Coast locals the chance to explore the natural wonders and geological surprises the Central Highlands region has to offer, including gemstone mines, Aboriginal rock art and amazing national parks like Carnarvon Gorge," Mr Brodie says.

“Opening the service to the general public provides key business links for the mining, resource and agricultural industries, as well as serving travellers who are visiting friends and family."

Central Highlands’ Mayor Kerry Hayes says transport links between regional towns and the south east are important for the business and tourism industries, as well as improving access to medical facilities.

"Connectivity to the south-east is vital to our economy and lifestyle," Mr Hayes says.
