A man has been airlifted to hospital, after he crashed his dirt bike in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

The Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was sent to the scene around 11:30am on Sunday.

The pilot was able to land the aircraft in a clearing nearby.

Due to the terrain where the accident had occurred, the injured rider was transported to the waiting helicopter by the Queensland Ambulance Service.

The man, aged in his forties, suffered lower body injuries and was flown in a stable condition to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
