Three per cent rates rise expected for Gympie residents


A three per cent rates rise is on the cards for Gympie residents.

Gympie Regional Council released its draft budget documents for the 2020/2021 financial year on Monday, ahead of a Special Meeting on Wednesday, July 29 where Council would look to adopt the budget and operational plan.

The budget would see an overall spend of $141.90 million, including a $40.99 million capital works program and an operational deficit of $3.45 million.

It would also see a 3 per cent rate increase to all residential ratepayers.

As part of this year’s budget, Council would invest more than $23 million on roads, bridges and storm water works, almost $6 million on parks and sporting facilities and $2.9 million on new pedestrian/cycle paths.

Another $14.4 million would be spent on on waste and recycling, $23.9 million on the Water Business Unit, $1.3 million on pools and $949,000 on environmental management.
