A major step forward for massive wind farm
One of the largest wind farms in the southern hemisphere is a step closer to becoming a reality, north of Gympie.
Legislation has been introduced in state parliament overnight, to allow Forest Wind to be built in pine timber plantations..
State Development Minister Kate Jones said the legislation would enable the wind farm to be constructed on forestry land at Toolara, Tuan and Neerdie state forests.
"Of course this project will still have to meet all the environmental standards and that process will be on-going".
Ms Jones said the massive project would be a win for local jobs.
"This new wind farm will create up to 450 jobs during construction and 50 on-going jobs".
