A vehicle has crashed into a tree at Southside in Gympie, trapping a woman inside.
One fire crew raced to the scene at the corner of Daphne Street and Eel Creek Road around 4.51am on Tuesday.
They had to use their hydraulic cutting gear to free the occupant by 5.15am.
The patient was then able to be assessed by paramedics, with a significant head injury.
A QAS spokesperson says the woman was in a serious condition.
The rescue helicopter was still on scene as of 7.08am, stabilising the patient for flight.
