A 45-year-old woman has passed away in hospital, following a three-vehicle crash on Kawana Way Link Road in Meridan Plains.
Police say a Kia Sorrento station wagon was travelling north around 8.45am on Monday, when it collided with a ute towing a box-trailer, that had pulled over on the shoulder of the road near the Caloundra Road roundabout.
The station wagon was then forced into the path of an oncoming 2013 Honda Jazz.
The driver of the Jazz, a 45-year-old Fitzgibbon woman, had to be freed from the vehicle before being rushed to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with critical injuries, where she later passed away.
The driver of Kia, a 25-year-old Nirimba woman was also taken to hospital as a precaution, after sustaining minor injuries.
The two men in the ute were not physically injured.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the collision and appeal for witnesses, especially those with dashcam vision of the crash or the moments leading up to it, to come forward.
