You don’t have to go far to taste what’s judged to be the best cheese in Australia….it’s made here on the Sunshine Coast.
Woombye Cheese won the Best Queensland cheese at the recent Royal Queensland Awards in Brisbane.
Its Blackall Gold Washed Rind cheese also won the “Olympics” of the cheese world, the Australian Grand Dairy award, earlier this year from 350 other competitors.
Beth O’Leary from Woombye Cheese said it takes about two days to make the cheese and everything is done by hand.
The same cheese also won Best in Queensland at last year’s awards and Ms O’Leary said it is fantastic to highlight the coast’s ability to produce such high quality products.
She said judges described Blackall Gold as equivalent to the much vaunted European cheeses.
